The first-start guide
The guide that opens on the first start of Winora. It shows where your data lives, offers a restore point, and lets you apply one profile.
On this page
The guide opens the first time you start Winora. It has five steps, and the top shows where you are, for example Step 2 of 5. Back goes to the step before. Skip setup closes the guide at any time and changes nothing.
Step 1: Welcome to Winora
This step tells you three things:
- Nothing is sent anywhere. Winora has no account, telemetry, advertising or cloud service.
- Every change is reviewed first. You see the exact before and after values, then confirm once.
- Every change can be undone. Winora writes each change to a journal first. History can put the old value back, if nothing else changed it since.
The step also shows Where Winora keeps its data, with a Copy path button. Under Language and theme you can pick English or Persian and a light, dark or system theme. They apply at once.
The box This PC and Winora tells you whether Winora has administrator rights. Without them, Winora changes only your own settings.
Click Continue.
Step 2: Create a restore point first
A restore point lets Windows go back to its earlier system settings. It takes a few seconds and uses some disk space. It does not cover your files.
- Click Create restore point. Windows asks its own question, then makes one restore point.
- Or click Skip for now. You can create one later from Overview.
If System Protection is off, Winora cannot create a restore point and never turns it on for you. Click Open Windows settings to decide there. Creating a restore point also needs administrator rights.
Step 3: Choose a profile
A profile is a short list of settings. Profiles in this guide never include high risk settings. Each card shows how many settings would change on this PC and their risk.
- Click a profile card to choose it. Balanced is marked Recommended.
- Click Don't apply a profile to finish without changing any setting.
Click Review the plan to go on. With no profile chosen the button reads Continue.
Step 4: Review the plan
The list shows every setting of the profile, with its value Now and After. The header counts the changes and the settings that are already set.
Untick a row to leave that setting as it is. Then click Apply with the number of changes, for example Apply 6 changes. This is the one confirmation. Each change goes into the journal first and can be undone later.
While Winora applies the profile you can click Cancel. Changes already made stay in place and can be undone.
Step 5: Setup finished
The last step shows what was changed. Under Where to find it it tells you that the Profiles page lists the profiles and the History page shows every change.
- Click Go to Overview to start using Winora.
- Click Open Profiles to look at the other profiles.
Open the guide again
Open Settings, find Welcome guide, and click Show again.
See also Profiles and History and undo.
