The command line tool is part of the Winora source code. It is the program Winora.Cli.exe. After you build Winora as shown in Installation, you find it in the folder src\Winora.Cli\bin\Release\net10.0.

Open a terminal in that folder. You can also run it from the source folder with dotnet run:

Bash
dotnet run --project src/Winora.Cli -c Release --no-build -- discover all

discover: list what is on this PC

discover only reads. Nothing is changed on this computer and nothing is sent anywhere.

Text
Winora.Cli.exe discover <startup|tasks|services|apps|all> [--json] [--filter TEXT] [--limit N]
  • startup lists startup entries, tasks scheduled tasks, services services and apps installed applications. all lists all four.
  • --filter TEXT shows only entries that contain the text.
  • --limit N shows at most N entries of each kind.
  • --json prints the result as JSON.

Examples:

Text
Winora.Cli.exe discover startup
Winora.Cli.exe discover services --filter print --limit 20
Winora.Cli.exe discover apps --json

settings: change Customize settings

settings works with the Windows user settings of the current account, the same settings as the Customize page. Every change is reviewed first and can be reverted.

Text
Winora.Cli.exe settings <list|show|preview|apply|revert|complete|history|recover> ...
CommandWhat it does
settings list [--category NAME]Lists the settings with their current value and status.
settings show IDShows one setting: value, location, risk, choices and the Windows default.
settings preview ID CHOICEShows the value before and after. Nothing is written.
settings apply ID CHOICEShows the review and asks Apply this change? [y/N].
settings revert OPERATIONPuts back the value from before an earlier change.
settings complete OPERATIONRestarts Explorer so a written change takes effect now.
settings historyLists the settings changes that Winora recorded.
settings recoverReconciles changes that were interrupted.
The settings commands.

ID is the id of a setting, in lower case with dots, for example explorer.show_file_extensions. CHOICE is one of its choices, which settings show lists. OPERATION is the operation id that settings history shows. --category takes a category name such as Explorer or Taskbar.

Example:

Text
Winora.Cli.exe settings show explorer.show_file_extensions
Winora.Cli.exe settings preview explorer.show_file_extensions show
Winora.Cli.exe settings apply explorer.show_file_extensions show

apply, revert and complete ask you to answer y in the terminal. To run them without the question, add --yes after you have checked the change with preview. A run that is not in a terminal and has no --yes writes nothing.

When a setting needs it, apply restarts Explorer after the change so it takes effect at once. Open File Explorer windows close. Options for apply:

  • --restart-explorer keeps this default.
  • --no-restart-explorer writes the change but does not restart Explorer. Run settings complete later.
  • --no-refresh only writes the value.

Most commands also take --json. Revert never overwrites a value that something else changed after Winora set it.

diagnostics: make a support archive

Text
Winora.Cli.exe diagnostics export [--to FOLDER] [--json]
Winora.Cli.exe diagnostics log-path

diagnostics export creates the same diagnostics archive as Export diagnostics in Settings. It goes into FOLDER, or into the current folder when you leave out --to. Nothing is uploaded.

diagnostics log-path prints the folder of the Winora log.

Press Ctrl+C to cancel a running command. A cancelled discover changes nothing.
